Designing a clear, compliant reporting system for complex ESG data Context NRG operates in a highly regulated energy environment where sustainability reporting must meet regulatory, investor, and internal requirements simultaneously. The challenge was not storytelling—it was accuracy, structure, and clarity at scale.

The Problem
Sustainability reports often become dense, inconsistent, and difficult to navigate, especially when balancing narrative, metrics, and compliance. The goal was to present complex ESG data in a way that was readable, defensible, and usable across multiple audiences.

What I Built
I designed a structured reporting system that prioritized clarity, consistency, and accessibility across long-form content. This included:
• A modular layout framework to support dense information without overwhelming readers. Clear typographic hierarchy to guide navigation through complex sections.
• Standardized data visualization rules to ensure charts and metrics were consistent and easy to interpret.
• A restrained visual approach that supported context without distracting from the data.

Data & Visualization
Data visualization standards were defined to reduce interpretation risk and improve comprehension. Charts, tables, and infographics followed consistent rules for scale, labeling, and hierarchy so readers could quickly compare information across sections.

Layout & Structure
A repeatable grid and page structure helped organize large volumes of content while supporting compliance and review workflows. This allowed teams to update and extend the report without reworking the underlying design system.

Visual Restraint
Photography and supporting visuals were used sparingly and intentionally. Visuals provided context where needed, but the focus remained on accuracy, readability, and long-form usability rather than emotional storytelling.

Applied Output
The final report balanced narrative, metrics, and regulatory requirements into a cohesive, readable document. The system supported multiple sections and content types while maintaining consistency throughout the report.

Impact
The sustainability report improved clarity across complex ESG content, supported regulatory and investor communication, and established a repeatable structure for future reporting cycles. The system reduced friction in review and production while maintaining accuracy and credibility.
