NRG Vivint - Smart Home Security Dashboard

Role: UI / Visual Design
Focus: System status, control hierarchy, clarity under pressure
Tools: Figma.
Project Overview
This project explores how a smart home security platform can communicate system health and safety at a glance, while keeping detailed controls fast and intuitive when action is needed. Rather than presenting the system as a collection of devices, the dashboard prioritizes system health, clarity, and confidence—answering the user’s primary question first: Is my home secure right now?
A system-level wireframe defining core decision surfaces, navigation logic, and component patterns for a desktop smart home security experience.
Problem
Most smart home dashboards overwhelm users with device-level data, forcing them to interpret status instead of clearly communicating it—especially in moments of stress or urgency.

Design Decision
Lead with a clear system status headline and health indicators to establish trust and situational awareness first, then surface device controls and automation only when users choose to engage.
Solution
A calm, high-contrast dashboard that:
• Communicates overall system state instantly.
• Groups devices by purpose and zone, not just type.
• Emphasizes hierarchy, spacing, and restraint over visual noise.
• Balances monitoring and control without overwhelming the user.

Outcome
A dashboard experience that feels confident, modern, and human—designed to reduce cognitive load, improve decision-making speed, and reinforce trust in the system rather than demanding constant attention.
